LaNee "Missy" McDonald graduated from Lamar CISD in 1986 and then went on to Texas Tech University. In 1990, Missy graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences. Upon graduation she attended graduate school at the University of Houston where she graduated in 1992 with a Masters of Art degree in Communication Disorders. During graduate school, Missy worked at the Richmond State School with profoundly handicapped individuals. Following graduation, she moved to Corpus Christi and worked for a private practice which provided Missy with experience with a variety of settings and ages. Missy worked in home health with both adults and children, hospitals, schools, rehabilitation hospitals, and the MHMR infant development program. Missy became HANEN certified and gave a two-day training seminar to the teachers at the infant development program to help encourage and identify communication attempts. While in Corpus Christi, Missy worked in a skilled nursing facility and then a major hospital. She then returned to the skilled nursing unit as the Director of Rehabilitation. For her hard work Missy was nominated and honored in achieving the Corpus Christi Caller Times, Top 40 Under 40 award.
In March of 1998, Missy and her family moved to Katy where she worked with adults from 18 years of age to 105 in a hospital/rehab setting. She became certified in Deep Pharyngeal Neuromuscular Stimulation (DPNS) and VitalStim. In 2005 they moved back to her hometown of Richmond where she worked for Lamar CISD for three years prior to opening Speech Therapy Plus, pllc in 2008. She and her husband raised their three boys in Pecan Grove. Missy is certified in Beckman Oral Motor Techniques and Berard AIT. She has also been trained in the Talk Tools program. Missy is a two-time National ACE award from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association for earning 70 hours or more of continuing education over a three-year period.
Missy has always enjoyed working with all ages and abilities; however, has taken a step back from the treatment room to allow more time to help behind the scenes and to be available to help her family when needed. She still loves to share knowledge with therapists and families as well as occasionally step in to help when needed. If you have a question, she is probably there.
